Fatal Riverdale Shooting Claims Teen’s Life
RIVERDALE, Ill. — A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot and a 20-year-old man was left in critical condition after a shooting erupted on the Far South Side Monday evening, authorities reported. The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. in the 13000 block of South Champlain Avenue, leaving the community shaken and police searching for answers.
Victims Rushed to Hospital After Shots Fired
According to police, officers responded quickly to reports of gunfire in the Riverdale neighborhood and discovered the teenage victim lying in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Not far away, the 20-year-old adult victim was found with a serious gunshot injury to his lower back. Both individuals were transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center for emergency treatment.
Despite lifesaving efforts by medical staff, the 17-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The older victim remains hospitalized in critical condition, where he continues to receive intensive care.
Ongoing Investigation, No Arrests Yet
Police confirmed that no suspects are currently in custody, and detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Law enforcement officials are appealing to the public for any information that could help identify those responsible and lead to arrests.
