Mitch Evans Seizes Victory In Chaotic And Rain Soaked Miami E-Prix
Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans mastered treacherous conditions to secure a record-breaking victory at the Miami E-Prix on Saturday. In a race described as turning the grid “upside down” due to shifting weather and strategic turmoil, Evans climbed from ninth on the grid to claim the top step of the podium at the Miami International Autodrome.
The Round 3 event of Season 12 (2025/2026) began under the Safety Car as rain lashed the circuit around the Hard Rock Stadium, creating a slippery surface that neutralized the advantage of the front-runners. Pole-sitter Nico Müller of Porsche and early leader Felipe Drugovich battled for control, but the drying track later in the race scrambled the strategies. Drugovich, who had led significant portions, received a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision with Evans’ teammate, Antonio Felix da Costa, effectively removing him from contention.
Evans executed a perfect energy management strategy and a decisive switchback maneuver to take the lead, holding off the Porsche duo of Müller and Pascal Wehrlein, who finished second and third respectively. The win marks Evans’ 15th career victory, making him the most successful driver in Formula E history in terms of race wins.
The chaotic nature of the race proved disastrous for other title contenders. Championship leader Nick Cassidy failed to score points after a difficult afternoon for the Citroën squad, while Oliver Rowland also left empty-handed. The result revitalizes Jaguar’s championship campaign following a scoreless start to the weekend, moving Evans significantly up the driver standings.
This year’s event marked a venue change for the series in Florida, moving from the Homestead-Miami Speedway used in the previous season to the 2.32 km Miami International Autodrome. The new layout, combined with the unpredictable weather, provided a rigorous test for the Gen3 Evo cars and shook up the competitive order, leaving teams to rapidly adjust setups for the remainder of the double-header weekend.
