Tragic Shooting in Bakersfield Leaves Woman Dead
A heartbreaking domestic violence incident in Bakersfield, California, has resulted in murder charges against a 37-year-old man accused of fatally shooting his wife in the presence of their 15-year-old son late last month. Authorities allege the suspect used an AR-15 style rifle during the attack and later told officers that he believed his spouse had been unfaithful.
Alleged Crime Details: Police Report and Witness Account
According to law enforcement records, the couple had been drinking the night of November 26 when an argument escalated. Investigators state the husband fired shots into a gun safe before retrieving an AR-15 and opening fire on his wife inside the home. Their teenage son reportedly witnessed the fatal shootings.
Court documents reveal the suspect allegedly told responding officers that he thought his partner was cheating on him — a motive he referenced during the confrontation. Police allege the man attempted to harm himself afterward, but his son intervened, wrestled away the weapons, and prevented further violence before calling for help.
Arrest, Charges, and Legal Proceedings
After fleeing the scene in his vehicle, the suspect was located and taken into custody at a nearby shopping center. Prosecutors have charged him with first-degree murder, along with additional counts including willful cruelty to a child and causing injury to a spouse or cohabitant.
He is currently held without bail at the Lerdo Justice Facility, and his next court appearance is scheduled for February 11.
