Fatal Domestic Shooting During Late-Night Dispute

A 37-year-old Bakersfield, California man was arrested and charged with first-degree murder after his wife was reportedly shot dead with an AR-15 rifle in front of their 15-year-old son during a late-night dispute. The suspect allegedly told responding officers that he believed his spouse had been unfaithful, sparking a violent confrontation that ended in tragedy.

According to law enforcement documents, the couple had been drinking on the evening of November 26 when the argument escalated. After firing at a safe inside the home, the suspect allegedly returned with the rifle and shot his wife multiple times while their son was present.

Son Intervenes and Suspect Fleeing Scene

After the deadly shooting, the suspect allegedly attempted to harm himself, prompting his son to wrestle the firearm away and prevent further injury. The father then fled the residence and was later located at a nearby shopping center, where police took him into custody.

During his arrest, officials say the suspect made spontaneous statements about the shooting and confessed to causing the killing, attributing his actions to jealousy over the alleged infidelity.

Additional Charges and Court Proceedings

In addition to the murder charge, the man faces allegations of willful cruelty to a child and inflicting corporal injury on a cohabiting spouse. He is currently being held without bail at the local justice facility. A court appearance is scheduled for February 11, where he will answer to all charges.
