Suspect in Custody After Fire Erupts Outside Manhattan Federal Building

A man has been taken into custody after allegedly setting off an incendiary device outside a federal building in Lower Manhattan, New York, triggering a fire and prompting a major law enforcement response.

The incident unfolded outside 26 Federal Plaza, a building that houses several federal agencies, including the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Officials said the suspect was detained shortly after the fire started, while investigators launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Authorities Launch Joint Terrorism Investigation

According to investigators, the suspect allegedly ignited a flammable substance using fireworks, causing flames and heavy smoke near the building’s entrance. Security personnel quickly intervened and took the individual into custody before the situation escalated further.

The FBI’s New York Joint Terrorism Task Force is leading the investigation. Officials recovered multiple items from the suspect, including incendiary materials and other weapons, as they work to determine the motive behind the attack.

Minor Injuries Reported as Officials Secure the Area

Authorities confirmed that several people sustained minor injuries during the incident. Emergency crews responded promptly, and the affected individuals received medical treatment. Officials temporarily secured the surrounding area while investigators examined the scene and collected evidence.

Law enforcement emphasized that there is currently no ongoing threat to the public, though the investigation remains active. Federal officials continue to review surveillance footage, witness statements, and physical evidence as they determine whether additional charges may follow.
