The criminal trial of British comedian and actor Russell Brand, who faces several allegations of rape and sexual assault, has been postponed to October 2026. The delay comes after additional charges were filed, increasing the complexity and expected duration of the case.
Trial Delay Linked to Additional Charges
The case was initially scheduled to begin in June 2026 but has now been pushed back by several months. The postponement follows the inclusion of new allegations, which expanded the total number of charges and required more time for legal proceedings.
A judge at Southwark Crown Court confirmed that the trial will now start in October and could run for up to eight weeks—longer than originally planned due to the broader scope of the case.
Details of the Allegations
Brand, 50, is facing seven charges, including multiple counts of rape as well as sexual and indecent assault. The accusations involve six women and relate to alleged incidents that took place between 1999 and 2009.
The claims include serious allegations ranging from rape to inappropriate conduct in professional settings. Authorities have continued to investigate the matter, and the case has grown as more complainants have come forward over time.
Brand Denies All Charges
The comedian has pleaded not guilty to all accusations and has consistently denied any wrongdoing. He was not required to attend a recent preliminary court hearing where the new trial schedule was confirmed.
Once a prominent figure in British entertainment and international films, Brand has in recent years shifted his focus toward online content and commentary.
