Afghan Resident Taken Into Custody After TikTok Threat

An Afghan man has been arrested in Texas after allegedly threatening to bomb a building in the Fort Worth area. Officials say the suspect posted a video on social media indicating he was constructing an explosive device for that purpose.

The man, identified as Mohammad Dawood Alokozay, was taken into custody on November 25 by a coordinated operation involving the state police and a federal counterterrorism task force.

He now faces a state-level charge of making a “terroristic threat” under Texas law.

Background: Resettlement under Post-Afghanistan Withdrawal Program

Alokozay reportedly entered the United States as part of a large-scale Afghan resettlement initiative that followed the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan. He later obtained lawful permanent resident status.

According to authorities, his arrest came amid heightened security scrutiny — notably after another Afghan national, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, was arrested on suspicion of shooting two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., just a day earlier.

The timing has sparked renewed debate about immigration and resettlement policies for evacuees.

Immigration and Legal Consequences, and Wider Reactions

After his arrest, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a detainer to ensure that local law enforcement does not release Alokozay at the end of state-level proceedings, allowing federal authorities to review his immigration status — possibly leading to deportation.

The incident has added fuel to criticism of the vetting and resettlement process used during the mass Afghan relocation. While some argue this case highlights gaps in screening, refugee advocates caution against using isolated incidents to stigmatize entire immigrant communities.
