Eight Hurt in Coney Island Shooting During Holiday Weekend
A late-night shooting in New York City’s Coney Island neighborhood left eight people injured, including four children, as families gathered to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday.
The gunfire erupted around 10:35 p.m. near West 30th Street in Brooklyn, close to the famous Coney Island boardwalk. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported all victims to nearby hospitals. Authorities said one 21-year-old woman remains in critical condition, while the other seven victims are reported to be in stable condition.
Children Among Victims as Police Search for Suspect
According to investigators, the injured include four boys aged 6, 7, 12, and 14, along with four adults. Police believe a masked individual approached the area where a family gathering was taking place, opened fire multiple times, and then fled on foot.
Law enforcement officers recovered a firearm and several shell casings from the scene. As of now, no arrests have been made, and investigators are continuing to search for the suspect while reviewing evidence and speaking with witnesses.
Investigation Continues Into Possible Motive
Officials are examining whether the shooting may be connected to a previous violent incident reported in the same neighborhood earlier in the week. However, investigators have not confirmed a motive and say the inquiry remains active.
The shooting occurred just hours after Independence Day celebrations had drawn large crowds to Coney Island, turning what had been a festive evening into a chaotic emergency response.
Authorities have urged anyone with information or video footage related to the incident to contact investigators as they work to identify those responsible.
