At least 12 people have been killed and more than 30 others injured after a major Russian missile and drone assault struck Kyiv and areas around the Ukrainian capital overnight. The attack damaged residential buildings, medical facilities and educational sites, while emergency teams worked through fires and rubble to search for survivors.

The overnight barrage hit several parts of Kyiv, with some of the heaviest destruction reported in the Solomianskyi district. Ukrainian officials said the strikes caused widespread damage and fires across the capital.

Residential Buildings Hit as Rescue Teams Search for Survivors

Several residential areas were struck during the attack, leaving buildings badly damaged and residents trapped in some locations.

In the Solomianskyi district, the upper floors of a nine-storey apartment building were destroyed, triggering fires and rescue operations. Emergency workers searched damaged structures as authorities warned that people could still be trapped beneath debris.

Other parts of Kyiv also reported damage to homes, warehouses and industrial properties. The strikes affected multiple locations across the capital, highlighting the scale of the overnight bombardment.

Children’s Hospital and Other Civilian Facilities Damaged

The attack also caused damage to a children’s medical facility and an educational institution. Officials said explosions and fires were reported at several locations as emergency crews responded to the strikes.

Power supplies were also disrupted in parts of the city, adding to the difficulties faced by residents and emergency services following the bombardment.

Ukrainian authorities continue to assess the damage while rescue and recovery operations remain underway. The number of casualties has also changed as emergency workers continue searching affected sites.

Russia Claims Military Targets Were Hit

Russia’s defence authorities said the strikes targeted Ukrainian military and logistics infrastructure, including facilities connected with drone production and military supplies.

The Ukrainian capital has faced increasingly frequent long-range missile and drone attacks as the war continues. Kyiv has repeatedly appealed to its international partners for additional air-defence systems, particularly equipment capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.

The latest attack comes amid continuing fighting between Russia and Ukraine and growing international efforts to find a path toward ending the conflict.
