Dramatic Ledge Rescue After Armed Robbery Attempt in Maryland
BETHESDA, Md. — Early on New Year’s Day, two men were rescued from a narrow ninth-floor ledge at a Bethesda hotel after fleeing an armed assailant who allegedly entered their room and attempted to rob them at gunpoint. Firefighters and rescue crews brought the duo to safety after they were stranded outside the hotel window for over an hour.
Escape Turned Perilous: Guests Climb Onto Hotel Ledge
Authorities received a call around 12:40 a.m. from the Embassy Suites Hotel on Democracy Boulevard reporting an attempted armed robbery inside a guest room. According to police, an armed man entered the room where the two men were staying and tried to rob them. In an effort to evade the suspect, the men climbed out of their window and onto a ninth-floor ledge, where they remained stranded overnight.
Rescue Operation Safely Concludes
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service’s Special Operations Technical Rescue Team was dispatched to the scene. Using a ladder truck, they were able to reach and safely extract the two men from the narrow ledge at approximately 2:30 a.m. Neither man sustained any injuries during the ordeal.
Suspect Apprehended, Investigation Ongoing
Montgomery County police later confirmed the arrest of a suspect believed to be connected to the armed robbery attempt. Details about the individual and potential charges have not been released as the investigation continues.
