Shocking Classroom Attack in Sanary-sur-Mer
SANARY-SUR-MER, FRANCE — A 60-year-old art teacher at a middle school in Sanary-sur-Mer, in the Var region of southern France, was critically injured Tuesday afternoon after a 14-year-old student stabbed her multiple times during class. The violent incident has rattled the local school community and sparked renewed discussion about student safety and teacher protection.
Details of the Assault and Arrest
The attack occurred around mid-afternoon at Collège La Guicharde when the adolescent allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the teacher three to four times, according to local authorities. Emergency medical teams rushed the injured educator to a nearby hospital, where her condition remains critical.
After the assault, the student left the classroom briefly but was quickly detained by school staff in the courtyard. Police took the teenager into custody and placed him under formal investigation for attempted murder.
Community Reaction and Ongoing Investigation
Officials, including France’s Education Minister, have expressed profound concern over the stabbing and have traveled to the scene. Classrooms at the school were temporarily suspended, and psychological support services were made available for students and staff affected by the incident.
