Road Rage Turns Deadly: Passenger Critically Wounded After Highway Collision GwYSJo1awAAlyls

A routine highway moment escalated into a terrifying act of violence when a passenger was shot in the head during a road-rage incident along US Highway 285 in Colorado. The conflict erupted after one vehicle passed another and the driver of the second car retaliated — firing into the front seat of the overtaken vehicle, according to law enforcement. The suspect is now in custody, facing multiple counts of attempted murder, as the victim fights for her life in hospital.

Furious Road-Rage Collision on US Hil-Way

The incident began shortly before 7 p.m. when deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded to a single-vehicle crash near the 8400 block of Highway 285 and Settlers Drive. Investigators determined a black Hyundai Santa Fe had collided with a guardrail following a reported altercation between two drivers. Inside the crashed vehicle, they discovered the female passenger had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Suspect Arrested, Charges Filed

Authorities quickly identified the alleged shooter as 56-year-old Matthew Impellitteri of the 8400 block of Highway 285. He was taken into custody without incident and booked on two counts of attempted first-degree murder along with two counts of attempted murder of extreme indifference. Bond was set at $1 million. Prosecutors described the victim’s survival as “a miracle at this point.”

Victim’s Condition and Ongoing Investigation

The injured woman underwent emergency surgery after being air-lifted to a trauma centre. Investigators continue to probe the exact sequence of events, including the nature of the initial passing maneuver that provoked the assault. Meanwhile, the suspect remains jailed without bail as the case moves toward trial.
