Mexican National Sentenced After Illegal Return to the U.S. Williamsport

A federal court has issued a sentence of time served—approximately four months—for 34-year-old Mexican national Edelicio Castillo-Ramos, who pleaded guilty to unlawfully reentering the United States after a prior removal. He was immediately handed over to immigration authorities for deportation.

Background of the Conviction

Castillo-Ramos was arrested in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, on June 20 2025 after returning to the U.S. without authorization following his removal in July 2012 at Calexico, California, according to prosecutors. He was charged with a single count of illegal reentry.

Legal Process and Outcome

Following his plea on October 15, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Matthew W. Brann, Castillo-Ramos received a sentence of time served. Upon release, he was taken into the custody of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for immediate deportation.

Enforcement & Implications

The case highlights ongoing efforts by U.S. authorities to manage illegal reentry. The investigation was led by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Removal Operations unit, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Robin Zenzinger prosecuting. Officials emphasize that returning to the U.S. without legal permission carries serious consequences.
