A dramatic overnight incident in Mandurah has seen a 35-year-old man arrested and charged following a deliberate fire that ripped through a child-care facility. The blaze, which erupted around 6:30 pm at the centre on Truarn Street, caused significant damage and prompted an investigation by the arson squad.


Fire Ravage at Childcare Facility

According to investigators, the accused entered the premises of the centre and set various items alight, triggering a fire that spread from the patio into the main building. The damage bill is estimated at approximately $500,000.
Thankfully, no children or staff were present at the time of the incident.

Charges and Legal Action

The man from Mandurah faces multiple charges including criminal damage by fire, burglary, assaulting a police officer, and obstructing public officers.
A police officer injured during the arrest was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released.
He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court.

Community Impact & Investigation

Staff at the centre expressed devastation over the incident, emphasising their gratitude no one was onsite when the fire broke out.
The arson squad continues to investigate, urging anyone with relevant CCTV or dash-cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
