Georgia Mother Charged in Deaths of Two Infant Sons Years Apart
Authorities in Georgia have charged a young mother with the deaths of her two infant sons after investigators uncovered disturbing similarities between the two cases. Officials say the children died in separate incidents several years apart, and new evidence has led to serious criminal charges.
The suspect, identified as Dakota Nicole Taylor, 21, from Wrens, Georgia, is accused of killing her babies by suffocating them. Investigators believe she obstructed their breathing by holding their nostrils, preventing them from getting oxygen.
Law enforcement agencies say the case came together after the death of her second child raised questions that eventually reopened the earlier investigation.
Second Infant’s Death Triggers Investigation
The investigation intensified in January 2025 when Taylor’s 8-month-old son, Caleb, was found unresponsive at a home in Matthews, Georgia. Emergency responders rushed the infant to a hospital, but he later died.
Authorities from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) joined the case after the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance. According to investigators, evidence suggested the child had been deliberately deprived of oxygen, leading to his death.
Detectives later concluded that the death was not accidental. Prosecutors allege the child suffered extreme physical and emotional harm before dying.
Earlier Child Death Reopened
Following the 2025 incident, investigators revisited the 2021 death of Taylor’s other infant son, Micah, who was seven months old at the time. Initially, the cause of his death had been listed as undetermined.
However, after examining new evidence and the circumstances surrounding Caleb’s death, authorities believe both cases share the same cause. Investigators allege Micah was also suffocated in a similar manner by blocking his airways.
The earlier incident occurred while Taylor was living in a group home for teenage mothers. Witnesses reportedly noticed the baby unresponsive after he had been placed in a swing following a bath.
Arrest and Court Proceedings
Taylor was arrested in November 2025 and charged with multiple serious offenses, including malice murder, felony murder, and first-degree cruelty to children.
She has been held in custody while the legal process moves forward. In one of the cases, a judge approved a bond totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars, though reports suggest her family may not be able to afford it.
Meanwhile, in another jurisdiction connected to the earlier child’s death, the court denied bond during a separate hearing.
Taylor is scheduled to appear in court again as prosecutors continue to pursue the case.
