Isabelle Johnson Arrested After Weeks on the Run
Florida murder suspect Isabelle Johnson has been taken into custody after authorities spent approximately 45 days searching for her across multiple states.
Johnson, 38, was arrested without incident on Thursday, Aug. 13, near Cottondale in Jackson County, Florida, by members of a U.S. Marshals Task Force. She is accused of killing 43-year-old Jason Coulthart, whose remains were discovered in a shallow grave in Freeport, Florida, on June 25.
Authorities said investigators with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office Cyber Crime Unit developed information about Johnson’s communications that ultimately helped pinpoint her location. She was later taken to Walton County, where the alleged killing occurred.
Johnson is being held without bond and could face additional charges as the investigation continues.
Victim Found Buried in Freeport
Coulthart had been reported missing in late May after he was last seen in the Niceville area. Investigators received information about his possible whereabouts on June 25, leading them to a property in Freeport.
His body was discovered in a shallow grave that investigators said had been covered with concrete. A black Cadillac was also found parked above the burial site. Authorities reported that a zip tie was found around Coulthart’s neck.
Coulthart was a father and a New Jersey native. His family previously asked the public to remember him as a son, brother, father and friend while investigators worked to determine what happened.
The case prompted a major investigation involving local, state and federal agencies.
Authorities Say Suspect Used Multiple Aliases
During the search, investigators warned that Johnson allegedly used several names and aliases, including Harley, Jessica Elaine Bowman, Jessica Elaine Thrush, Jessica Elaine Thrash and Jessica Dowdy. Authorities also believed she may have changed her appearance, including cutting or dyeing her hair.
Investigators said Johnson moved frequently and allegedly persuaded people to help her by telling stories about personal hardship and domestic violence.
Five people have already been arrested in connection with efforts to help Johnson avoid capture. Authorities allege that some provided shelter, transportation, phones or other supplies, while others allegedly attempted to mislead investigators about her whereabouts.
Officials said the investigation remains active and that additional charges or arrests could follow.
Johnson’s arrest brings an end to the lengthy search, but investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding Coulthart’s death and determine exactly how Johnson remained out of custody for so long.
