Holiday Brunch Turns Violent in Miami

MIAMI — A 50-year-old Florida woman was taken into custody after police say she shot her adult son outside a well-known Miami eatery on Christmas Day following a family dispute, according to law enforcement reports. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his thigh and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Details of the Incident and Arrest

Authorities were called to the Red Rooster restaurant parking area around 5:30 p.m. on December 25 after reports of gunfire. Investigators allege that the mother and her son were leaving the restaurant after a holiday brunch when the argument escalated.

Witness statements and police reports indicate the son’s behavior during the meal frustrated his mother, leading to a verbal dispute that continued into her vehicle. When tensions peaked, the woman allegedly produced a firearm and shot her son once in the leg before fleeing the scene.

Self-Defense Claim and Legal Proceedings

Officers later located and arrested the woman with assistance from a specialized domestic violence unit. She faces aggravated battery charges and has entered a plea of not guilty. In her statement to police, she claimed she acted out of fear for her safety, asserting her son threatened her and refused to exit the vehicle.

A pre-trial detention hearing is scheduled for later this week as the case continues to unfold. Law enforcement officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
