Emmy-winning actor and director Timothy Busfield is now the subject of a New Mexico arrest warrant after being charged with criminal sexual contact of a minor tied to allegations that he inappropriately touched a young actor while working on the set of the television drama The Cleaning Lady. The charges represent a significant development in a case that has drawn attention to on-set safety for child performers.
Accusations and Arrest Warrant Details
Authorities in Albuquerque, New Mexico have obtained a warrant charging Busfield, 68, with two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and child abuse. The complaint centers on statements from a child who described being touched inappropriately multiple times on or near the set while the actor directed episodes of The Cleaning Lady, which aired on Fox.
According to court filings, one alleged victim reported that inappropriate touching first occurred at age seven, with additional incidents at age eight, between late 2022 and the spring of 2024. The child’s mother informed Child Protective Services after seeing troubling behavior, and one of the child’s medical providers said the minor has since been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety related to the alleged conduct.
Busfield’s legal team, as well as representatives for the actor, have not publicly responded to the charges.

The investigation began in late 2024 after medical staff at the University of New Mexico Hospital flagged possible grooming concerns, prompting police involvement. Initial interviews at the hospital did not include disclosures of sexual contact, but further discussions with counselors and specialists later revealed more serious allegations.
Warner Bros., the studio behind The Cleaning Lady, conducted its own internal review after the allegations surfaced but stated at the time it could not confirm wrongdoing. Industry professionals have emphasized the importance of protecting child performers, though responses from other cast or crew members have not been widely reported.
Busfield, who earned acclaim for his roles in The West Wing, Field of Dreams and thirtysomething, has a decades-long career as both an actor and director.
