Shocking Unprovoked Attack at Bronx Subway Station

A peaceful New Year’s morning turned alarming when a 72-year-old man was pushed into a moving New York City subway train at the 161st Street – Yankee Stadium station in the Bronx. The incident, occurring around 3:30 a.m., was sudden and unexpected, prompting a rapid law enforcement response.

According to authorities, the victim was waiting for a Manhattan-bound No. 4 train when another rider allegedly shoved him directly into the train’s path. The elderly commuter suffered head injuries and was rushed to a local hospital in stable condition following the terrifying assault.

Suspect Apprehended; Charges Filed

Police quickly took 29-year-old Brooklyn resident Anton Aleshin into custody at the scene. Officials have charged him with attempted murder, assault, and reckless endangerment as the investigation continues. Law enforcement sources mentioned that intoxication may have played a role in the suspect’s behavior, though details are still emerging.

The elderly victim’s injuries, while serious, were not life-threatening, and he remains under medical care. Authorities have not yet released additional information about a possible motive or whether any mental health concerns are involved.

Amid Rising Transit Violence, Officials Urge Caution

This violent encounter highlights ongoing concerns about safety on New York City’s public transportation network. Recent weeks have seen a series of unrelated assaults and altercations in subway stations, raising public alarm and sparking renewed calls for increased security and vigilance.

City officials continue to emphasize that while most subway rides remain safe, commuters should always be alert to their surroundings and report suspicious activity. The NYPD is investigating this incident as part of a broader effort to curb random acts of transit violence throughout the city.
