A deadly gun attack at a historic New Orleans restaurant Friday evening has claimed the life of a young man and left several others injured, authorities confirmed. The incident has shaken both residents and visitors as police continue efforts to track down those responsible.
Shooting at Dooky Chase Restaurant Results in Fatality
Police were called to the iconic Dooky Chase Restaurant on Orleans Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. Friday following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered four people with gunshot wounds. A 19-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after collapsing in the restaurant’s entryway.
Three women struck by gunfire were rushed to nearby hospitals. Two remain in critical condition, while the third is reported to be stable, according to officials. All injured victims were visitors to the city, police noted.
Targeted Attack, Suspect Still at Large
Authorities believe the gunman was pursuing the male victim before the shooting began. Officials say the victim ran into the restaurant for refuge but was followed inside, where the assailant continued firing, striking bystanders in the foyer.
Police describe the suspect as a male wearing a dark hoodie who fled the scene after the attack. Video footage of the incident is being reviewed as part of the ongoing homicide investigation.
Mayor Helena Moreno emphasized that the restaurant itself was not the intended target, highlighting that the establishment has operated for more than eight decades without violent incidents.
Police Appeal for Public Assistance
The New Orleans Police Department is urging anyone with information or video evidence to contact investigators or submit tips anonymously. Enhanced community cooperation could play a crucial role in identifying the suspect and preventing further violence.
