Turner transformed the media industry in 1980 when he launched CNN, the world’s first 24-hour cable news network. At a time when many doubted audiences would watch news around the clock, CNN became a global force covering historic events including the Gulf War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and major international crises. Turner also pioneered the “superstation” concept through WTBS, helping expand cable television nationwide.
