Tragic High-Speed Crash in Charlotte Claims Two Lives
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A local teenager is facing serious criminal charges after a December high-speed collision on Ardrey Kell Road ended in tragedy, killing a mother and her adult daughter and leaving a young girl fighting for her life, authorities confirmed.
The 18-year-old driver, identified by police as Jason Anthony Scott, was later arrested on two counts of involuntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury after the crash on Dec. 27, 2025.
Details of the Fatal Collision
Police say the incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. when Scott’s 2013 BMW was reportedly traveling at speeds far above the 45 mph zone before striking a 2011 Honda CR-V occupied by the victims.
Inside the SUV were 38-year-old Lorin Elizabeth Manley and her mother, Gloria Manley, both of whom died at the scene, according to law enforcement officials. A 12-year-old girl, the daughter and granddaughter of the deceased, survived but suffered multiple fractures and a collapsed lung; she remains hospitalized.
Scott, who also sustained significant injuries, was treated at a nearby hospital before being booked into custody. Court records show he posted a $300,000 secured bond and was ordered not to operate a vehicle while the case proceeds.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Support
Officials with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department note that speed appears to be a major factor in the collision, though toxicology results are still pending. Scott is not currently suspected to have been drugged or intoxicated at the time of the crash.
In the wake of the collision, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to help cover medical bills and support the surviving child as she continues her recovery with the care of her older sister.
The next scheduled court appearance for the driver is set for early February.
