An Arizona man, who escaped the U.S. while on probation for child-sex crime convictions, was arrested in France earlier this month after years of living abroad under an alias. The 51-year-old was located in the town of Kilstett and is expected to be returned to the United States once French proceedings conclude.
From Arizona to Europe: A Fugitive’s Flight
In late 2008, the man in question cut off his ankle monitor and fled the United States while on probation following convictions for attempted sexual exploitation of a child and escape. He was recaptured in Spain in 2009 and returned to Arizona, where he received lifelong probation and a short deferred jail sentence. Following his 2012 sentencing, he fled again and traveled through Vietnam and Poland before settling in France.
International Detection and Capture
The fugitive applied for a pilot’s license in Spain using his real name, triggering a name-check that revealed his status on Scottsdale’s most-wanted list. Spanish authorities alerted investigators, leading to his arrest in Kilstett, northeast France, on November 1. Investigations revealed he adopted two children in Vietnam and obtained a legitimate Polish passport under a false identity.
Next Steps: Extradition and Legal Update
U.S. prosecutors in Arizona say they will seek his extradition once France completes its internal proceedings, though no timeline has been set. Meanwhile, authorities continue to clean up residual legal and identity records tied to his years on the run.
