A 44-year-old man suspected of being the so-called “Putney Pusher” has been found dead at his home in Chiswick, west London, nearly a decade after a woman was pushed into the path of a moving bus on Putney Bridge.
Nicholas Brandram had been arrested in June 2026 in connection with the 2017 incident, which attracted widespread attention after CCTV footage showed a jogger shoving a woman into the road. He was released under investigation and had not been formally charged.
Man Found Dead at Chiswick Property
Police and ambulance crews attended a property in Chiswick, Hounslow, on the evening of September 15 after a man was reported unresponsive inside.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 44-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
Authorities said the death was being treated as unexpected but was not believed to be suspicious at that time. A file is expected to be prepared for the coroner.
The man was identified in media reports as Nicholas Brandram, a former British Army officer and banker who had worked at HSBC’s private banking division.
Putney Bridge Attack Date Back to 2017
The incident that became known as the “Putney Pusher” case occurred in May 2017 on Putney Bridge in London.
CCTV footage showed a jogger approaching a 33-year-old woman from behind and pushing her to the ground as she walked across the bridge. Her head and upper body fell into the path of an approaching double-decker bus.
The bus driver reacted quickly and swerved, avoiding a potentially fatal collision. The woman escaped with minor injuries.
The attack sparked a major police investigation. Detectives interviewed around 50 men and arrested three suspects, but no one was charged at the time. The investigation was closed in 2018 after the attacker could not be identified.
Brandram Arrested After Years of Investigation
Brandram was arrested in June 2026 on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with the Putney Bridge incident. He was subsequently released under investigation and was not charged with the offence.
Reports also said he had been arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A and Class B drugs.
Brandram was a former military officer who served in Afghanistan and later worked in finance. He was also reported to have family connections to European royalty.
His death comes as the long-running Putney Pusher investigation remains a subject of public interest. Police have not established a motive for the original attack, and the circumstances surrounding Brandram’s death are expected to be examined by the coroner.
The Metropolitan Police have not publicly confirmed that Brandram was responsible for the 2017 attack.
