Florida executed Daniel Owen Conahan Jr. by lethal injection on Thursday, ending a decades-long legal case surrounding the 1996 killing of Richard Allen Montgomery. Conahan, 72, had been sentenced to death for Montgomery’s kidnapping and strangling in Charlotte County, where authorities discovered the remains of several people during a string of killings in the 1990s.
Conahan’s execution was Florida’s 15th of 2026 and came despite his longstanding claims of innocence and last-minute efforts seeking additional DNA testing. Authorities had also investigated him in connection with other deaths, although he was never charged in those cases.
