A Florida man has been sentenced to two consecutive life terms plus 145 years in prison after being convicted of killing his former co-worker during a violent confrontation in Panama City Beach.
Andre Ranglin, 23, was sentenced on September 8 after a six-day trial over the August 2024 shooting death of O’Neil Augustus McDonald, also 23. Prosecutors said the attack followed a workplace dispute that resulted in Ranglin losing his job.
Shooting Followed Workplace Dispute
According to prosecutors, Ranglin had been fired five days before the fatal shooting. Roughly an hour before McDonald was killed, Ranglin returned to the restaurant where the two men had worked and became involved in another confrontation with McDonald.
Prosecutors said Ranglin subsequently warned the restaurant’s owner to close the business the following day, making a threat that suggested gunfire was imminent.
Later, Ranglin went to an apartment complex in Panama City Beach, where McDonald was outside talking with friends. Investigators said Ranglin approached the group and opened fire.
McDonald attempted to escape across the parking area, but prosecutors said Ranglin continued shooting. The victim was struck 11 times, including two shots to the head after he had fallen to the ground.
Second Victim Survived Shooting
The violence continued after McDonald was shot. Ranglin reportedly turned his weapon toward a woman who was shouting during the attack.
Prosecutors said he chased the woman toward her apartment and fired at her as she attempted to get inside. She was struck once but survived her injuries.
Ranglin then fled the area. Authorities located and arrested him the following day at a motel in Dothan, Alabama.
Two Life Sentences Plus 145 Years
During the six-day trial, prosecutors argued that the shooting was motivated by anger and revenge stemming from the earlier workplace conflict.
A jury ultimately convicted Ranglin in connection with McDonald’s killing and the attack on the surviving witness. He was sentenced to two consecutive life terms along with an additional 145 years behind bars.
The sentence was imposed without the possibility of parole, meaning Ranglin is expected to spend the remainder of his life in prison.
