Police Investigate Deadly Kentucky Park Shooting
Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said authorities were investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. At the time of the initial investigation, police had not released information about a suspect.
Chief Weathers also said there was no continuing threat to the wider public. He encouraged residents who may have information about someone planning violence to contact police.
Authorities asked anyone who witnessed the shooting or had information that could help investigators to come forward.
Community Responds After Deadly Incident
The shooting prompted an immediate response from people attending the event, local officials and community leaders. Witnesses described people attempting to assist those who had been wounded after the gunfire.
Local leaders emphasized that the violence should not define Lexington’s East End community. The event was intended to bring residents together, making the shooting particularly distressing for those who had gathered for the celebration.
The investigation remains focused on determining what led to the shooting and identifying those responsible. Police continue to seek information from the public as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deadly incident.
