In a shocking development, a man was taken into custody at an airport just as he attempted to leave the country, following the suspicious disappearance of his ex-wife. Authorities later discovered a body believed to be the missing woman, leading to a murder charge and an ongoing investigation into the case.
Arrest at Airport Raises Suspicion
Police arrested a 67-year-old man at Melbourne Airport while he was preparing to board an international flight. Investigators had already begun probing the disappearance of his former partner, a 53-year-old woman who had suddenly lost contact with her family.
Her family reported her missing after she failed to board a scheduled flight to Indonesia, where she planned to visit her daughters. Authorities quickly labeled the situation as suspicious when she stopped responding to messages and her phone was switched off.
The man was detained and later charged with murder as the investigation intensified.
Body Found During Investigation
During the search, police located a woman’s body near Little River, not far from the victim’s residence. While formal identification was pending at the time, officials believed the remains to be those of the missing woman.
Reports indicate that the woman had been last seen heading to meet her ex-husband shortly before she disappeared. This detail became a key focus for investigators as they pieced together the timeline of events.
Troubling Details and Ongoing Case
Authorities also examined the suspect’s recent behavior, including social media activity that suggested he may have attempted to mislead others about his whereabouts. Investigators suspect some posts indicating he was already overseas may have been staged.
Friends and family described the victim as kind and caring, with some reports indicating she had previously experienced difficulties in past relationships.
The accused has been remanded in custody and is expected to appear in court later this year as legal proceedings continue.
