Video shows ICE agent shooting driver during Minneapolis immigration operation; 1 dead
MINNEAPOLIS — A person was fatally shot Wednesday in south Minneapolis during a federal immigration enforcement operation, as video circulating online appeared to capture gunfire moments before a vehicle sped away and crashed nearby, according to reporting reviewed by multiple outlets.
The Department of Homeland Security said an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer fired what it described as “defensive shots” after a driver “weaponized” a vehicle and attempted to run over federal officers during the operation.
Axios reported that video viewed by its newsroom shows a dark SUV trying to drive past what appear to be several ICE vehicles on a one-way street near 34th Street and Portland Avenue, with gunshots audible during a brief, chaotic sequence; the SUV then accelerates and strikes a parked car, according to Axios and a witness who provided the footage.
