Russia Strikes Ukraine’s Energy Network, Leaving Over One Million Homes Without Electricity CMS 1712915259

More than one million households across Ukraine were left without electricity after a new wave of Russian attacks targeted the country’s energy grid. The strikes damaged key power facilities, causing widespread blackouts and raising concerns about heating, water supply, and public safety as temperatures drop.

Coordinated Attacks on Power Infrastructure

Ukrainian authorities reported that missiles and drones hit multiple energy sites, including power plants and transmission facilities. Emergency shutdowns were carried out to prevent further damage, but the impact was immediate, plunging cities and towns into darkness. Energy officials said repair crews were dispatched as soon as security conditions allowed.

Civilian Life Disrupted Amid Winter Conditions

The outages affected residential areas, hospitals, transport systems, and businesses. In some regions, residents relied on generators and emergency shelters as heating systems went offline. Local governments urged people to conserve energy where possible and prepare for rolling blackouts while restoration work continued.

Ukraine Pushes for Rapid Repairs and Global Support

Ukraine’s leadership said restoring electricity is a top priority and accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure. Officials called for increased international assistance, including air defense systems and equipment needed to repair damaged energy facilities faster, to protect civilians from further hardship.
