Tragedy in Central Texas: Mother and Son Found Dead After Welfare Check
EL PASO, Texas — A routine welfare check led to a heartbreaking discovery last week when local police found two family members dead inside a residential property in central El Paso. Authorities now say the deaths resulted from a murder-suicide, with the perpetrator identified as the victim’s elderly mother.
Officers were initially called to a home on the 2400 block of Hawley Circle on Feb. 9 following concerns raised by a neighbor. Upon entering the residence, they located the bodies of a 68-year-old man and his 91-year-old mother. Early indications of suspicious circumstances prompted a thorough investigation by law enforcement.
Official Ruling: Murder-Suicide Confirmed by Police
After reviewing evidence at the scene and conducting follow-up inquiries, the El Paso Police Department concluded that the elderly woman shot her son before turning the gun on herself. Officials confirmed the identities of the deceased as a 91-year-old woman and her 68-year-old son, though details about what led to this devastating act have not been released.
Detectives from the Crimes Against Persons division are continuing interviews and scene analysis as part of an ongoing investigation. At this stage, no motive has been publicly announced.
Community Response and Continuing Inquiry
Neighbors expressed shock as news spread throughout the community, with many describing the neighborhood as quiet and close-knit prior to the incident. Local officials urge anyone with additional information to cooperate with investigators as they work to piece together the circumstances leading up to the fatalities.
Law enforcement remains committed to uncovering what may have driven the sudden act of violence, even as grieving family and residents come to terms with the loss.
