76-year-old man arrested during holiday travel on child-sex crime warrant

During the heavy‐traffic rush of the Thanksgiving travel season, U.S. border officers in South Texas intercepted a 76-year-old man wanted on serious child-sex charges. The passenger was being transported by bus when a secondary inspection uncovered his identity and an outstanding warrant, prompting his arrest and pending extradition to Illinois.

Secondary inspection flags wanted fugitive

On November 26, while processing the surge of holiday travelers at the Juárez-Lincoln Bridge in Laredo, agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) pulled aside a bus passenger for additional inspection. Biometric verification and law-enforcement database checks revealed that the man was wanted by police in Waukegan, Illinois. The warrant alleged he had committed “aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor.”

Once his identity and warrant were confirmed, CBP officers placed the man under custody, transferred him to a local jail in Texas, and notified authorities in Illinois. He is expected to be extradited soon to face formal charges.

Law-enforcement vows continued vigilance amid travel season

Port officials framed the arrest as a demonstration of the agency’s commitment to public safety — especially during periods of heavy border and holiday traffic. According to Alberto Flores, the Port Director, frontline officers remained alert and efficiently leveraged national database alerts to intercept a suspect before he could cross into the country.

“Sexual abuse against minors is among the most heinous offenses we encounter,” Flores said, emphasizing that apprehending those accused of such crimes helps make communities safer.

Next steps: Extradition and prosecution

With the suspect now in Texas custody, authorities plan to extradite him back to Illinois to face criminal prosecution for the alleged sexual offense against a minor. The arrest underscores the role of border inspections and inter-agency database cross-checks in intercepting wanted fugitives — even during routine passenger screening.
