A deadly disturbance inside a Georgia state prison has left three inmates dead and several others injured, including a corrections officer. Law enforcement officials said the situation unfolded rapidly and required an immediate emergency response to regain control of the facility.
Deadly Altercation Inside the Facility
According to officials, the incident began as a physical confrontation among inmates and quickly escalated into a violent fight. Despite staff intervention, three incarcerated individuals suffered fatal injuries. Emergency medical teams were called to the scene, but the inmates were pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Authorities have not released the identities of the deceased inmates, pending notification of their families.
Corrections Officer Among the Injured
In addition to the inmate deaths, a corrections officer and several others sustained injuries during the chaos. The injured were treated either on-site or transported to nearby medical facilities. Officials confirmed that the injuries were non-life-threatening, and those hurt are expected to recover.
The prison was temporarily placed on lockdown as a safety measure while officers secured the area and accounted for all inmates.
Investigation Underway
The incident is now under investigation by prison authorities along with local law enforcement and the Georgia Department of Corrections. Officials are working to determine what triggered the fight and whether weapons were involved.
