A dramatic domestic violence incident in Foley, Alabama, has drawn widespread attention after a 13-year-old boy reportedly stepped in to stop his father from allegedly strangling a woman during a heated argument. Authorities say the teen acted in self-defense after his father attempted to attack him, ultimately knocking the man unconscious. The father was later arrested and charged with domestic violence involving strangulation.
Teen Intervenes During Violent Argument
According to law enforcement officials, deputies were called to a home in Foley after reports of a domestic dispute. Investigators said the argument escalated when the suspect, identified as Daniel Hernandez-Lopez, 32, allegedly tried to choke a woman during the confrontation.
During the incident, the man reportedly went outside, where he was confronted by his 13-year-old son. Authorities said the father then lunged at the boy and attempted to strike him with a bicycle.
Boy Fights Back in Self-Defense
Facing the alleged attack, the teenager reportedly defended himself by punching his father multiple times in the face. Officials said the blows left the man unconscious until deputies arrived at the scene.
Police indicated that the suspect appeared to be heavily intoxicated during the altercation. Reports also suggest he may have been under the influence of narcotics at the time of the incident.
Arrest and Charges Filed
Authorities later took Hernandez-Lopez into custody and booked him into the Baldwin County Jail. He now faces a charge of domestic violence by strangulation, according to jail records.
