Harrowing Discovery During Florida Traffic Stop
An 11-year-old boy who vanished from his home was located alive days later when deputies stopped a pickup truck driven by a registered sex offender, Florida law enforcement officials confirmed. The child had been missing for several days before he was found in the back of the vehicle during a patrol stop in Flagler County.
According to sheriff’s deputies, the child reported being held against his will, threatened, and made to remain concealed in the truck before officers intervened. The harrowing rescue has sparked a broader inquiry into potential related crimes.
Suspect Arrested; Teen Driver Flees Before Crash
Law enforcement identified 60-year-old Darnell Hairston, a registered sex offender, as the driver of the truck in which the boy was found. Officers charged him with multiple felonies including kidnapping and aggravated child abuse, among other serious counts connected to the child’s disappearance.
When ordered to exit the vehicle, Hairston allegedly attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. Meanwhile, a 15-year-old occupant — believed to have been with Hairston — commandeered the truck and led deputies on a dangerous pursuit that ended in a crash. The teen now faces charges including aggravated fleeing from law enforcement.
Child Safe and Authorities Urge Public Vigilance
Officials report that the missing boy is now safe and receiving medical and psychological care following the traumatic incident. Investigators say he provided a detailed account of his confinement and the threats he endured.
Law enforcement is encouraging the community to report any suspicious activities or concerns about child safety to appropriate hotlines and authorities. The investigation into possible additional offenses tied to this case remains open.
