Ukraine’s leadership has signaled a shift in its diplomatic and negotiation efforts following one of the most intense Russian attacks on Kyiv in recent weeks. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the work of Ukrainian negotiators will be “adjusted” in response to the escalation, underlining that military pressure will not force Ukraine into concessions.

Massive Overnight Attack Hits Kyiv

Russia launched a large-scale overnight assault targeting Kyiv, using a mix of missiles and drones. Ukrainian air defense systems reported intercepting a significant number of incoming threats, though falling debris caused damage across several districts of the capital.

Emergency services confirmed fires in residential and commercial areas, with infrastructure also affected. Authorities urged residents to remain cautious as cleanup operations continued through the morning. While casualties were limited compared to the scale of the attack, officials described the strike as a clear attempt to intimidate the civilian population.

Zelenskyy Signals Shift in Negotiations

In a public address, Zelenskyy stressed that intensified attacks would not weaken Ukraine’s position. Instead, he said Ukraine would refine its diplomatic strategy to reflect the reality on the ground. According to the president, negotiations must align with Ukraine’s security needs and sovereignty, especially as Russia continues to escalate military actions.

He added that Ukraine remains open to diplomacy, but only under conditions that respect international law and Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Air Defenses and International Response

Ukraine’s air defense performance once again highlighted the importance of continued military support from allies. Officials noted that modern defense systems played a key role in reducing potential casualties.

International reactions condemned the attack, calling for sustained support for Ukraine and increased pressure on Russia to halt its military aggression.
