Teen Murder Suspect Critical After Self-Inflicted Injuries In DuPage Jail
A 19-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a pregnant woman in Downers Grove is currently in critical condition following what authorities describe as self-inflicted injuries sustained while in custody. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the suspect, Nedas Revuckas, was discovered injured in his housing unit at the DuPage County Jail just before 5 p.m. on Thursday. Correctional medical staff provided immediate treatment before he was transported to a local hospital.
Law enforcement officials stated that a preliminary investigation indicates no other inmates or personnel were involved in the incident, though they have not disclosed the specific nature of the injuries due to security concerns. The incident occurred shortly after a judge granted a petition to deny Revuckas pretrial release during a detention hearing earlier that same day.
Revuckas faces severe charges, including first-degree murder, intentional homicide of an unborn child, aggravated arson, armed robbery, and aggravated cruelty to animals. Prosecutors allege that on Monday, Revuckas went to the apartment of 30-year-old Eliza Morales to complete a Facebook Marketplace transaction regarding a 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck. Authorities claim a dispute arose, leading Revuckas to stab Morales approximately 70 times and set her apartment on fire. Morales, who was five months pregnant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators noted that the suspect also allegedly stabbed the family’s dog during the attack. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office indicated that Revuckas remains under heavy guard at the hospital while the investigation into the jail incident continues.
