Iran Threatens U.S. Positions in UAE After Kharg Island Strikes
Tensions in the Middle East have intensified after Iran warned it could target U.S. military positions in the United Arab Emirates following American airstrikes on Iran’s Kharg Island. The warning came shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that American forces had “obliterated” military targets on the strategic island.
Kharg Island, located in the Persian Gulf, plays a critical role in Iran’s economy because it handles a large share of the country’s oil exports. U.S. strikes reportedly focused on military facilities on the island while avoiding direct damage to oil infrastructure, at least for now.
Iranian officials responded with strong warnings, claiming that U.S. forces were operating from locations inside the UAE and describing those sites as potential targets if attacks against Iran continue.
U.S. Airstrikes Target Iranian Military Infrastructure
According to U.S. officials, the strikes on Kharg Island were aimed at military installations such as air-defense systems and naval facilities. President Trump described the operation as a decisive attack that destroyed Iranian military capabilities on the island.
However, the operation deliberately avoided targeting oil terminals, which handle most of Iran’s crude exports. Trump warned that the situation could change if Iran interferes with shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor.
Iranian media, meanwhile, reported that the island’s oil infrastructure remained operational despite the strikes.
Iran Signals Retaliation and Regional Risks Grow
Following the attack, Iran’s military leadership said U.S. bases and facilities in neighboring countries could become “legitimate targets.” Officials specifically warned about locations in the UAE where they claim American forces operate.
The warning comes as the broader conflict in the region continues to expand. Missile and drone incidents have been reported across the Gulf, including near major ports and energy infrastructure. Some oil operations in the region have temporarily paused after drone debris sparked fires near facilities.
The confrontation has raised concerns among global leaders about the risk of a wider regional conflict, particularly as the war enters its third week with growing military activity across several countries.
Rising Global Concerns
International observers fear that continued escalation could threaten energy supplies and maritime trade routes in the Persian Gulf. Kharg Island alone handles a significant portion of Iran’s oil exports, making it strategically important for both economic and geopolitical reasons.
With threats, military deployments, and retaliatory warnings intensifying, analysts say the situation remains volatile and could have far-reaching consequences for regional stability and global energy markets.
