A 14-year-old boy who disappeared during a custody dispute in New Mexico has finally been reunited with his father after being missing for nearly three years. The emotional reunion came after law enforcement officers located the teenager when he crossed back into the United States with his mother, bringing an end to a nationwide search that involved several federal agencies.

The case has drawn widespread attention, with family members describing the reunion as both joyful and emotional after years of uncertainty.

Authorities Locate Teen During Border Crossing

Andrew Escobar was 11 years old when he disappeared from Rio Rancho, New Mexico, in July 2023. Investigators believe he was taken by his mother during an ongoing custody dispute.

According to officials, the breakthrough happened on July 1, 2026, when an alert was triggered as Andrew and his mother entered the United States from Mexico. Border authorities identified Andrew as a missing child and immediately detained both individuals.

His mother is currently being held in Texas while awaiting extradition to New Mexico to face legal proceedings connected to the case.

Father Focused on Son’s Recovery

Although Andrew has been found in good physical condition, his father says the emotional impact of the past three years remains a major concern.

During the time Andrew was missing, his father and stepmother reportedly left their jobs to dedicate themselves to searching for him. They continued celebrating his birthdays each year, hoping they would eventually be reunited.

Andrew has also reportedly told investigators that he traveled to several countries while he was missing, including Austria, Albania, Turkey, and the Netherlands.

Family Begins a New Chapter

Now safely reunited with his family, Andrew’s recovery is the top priority. Legal representatives close to the family say rebuilding trust and helping the teenager adjust to normal life will take time.

Mental health support and family counseling are expected to play an important role as Andrew reconnects with loved ones after years apart. While the reunion marks the end of a long search, the family now faces the challenge of helping the teenager heal from the emotional effects of the ordeal.
