A dramatic kidnapping investigation in upstate New York has led to multiple arrests after a woman and her two young children were allegedly taken from a residence where they had been staying under a safety arrangement with authorities.

Police said the victims — a 54-year-old mother and her children, ages 7 and 9 — were located safely in Rochester after disappearing from a home in Perinton. Investigators believe the incident involved family members and may have been connected to plans to remove the children from the United States.

Multiple Arrests Made in Alleged Family Abduction Case

Authorities confirmed that four men were arrested in connection with the case, including the woman’s adult son. Prosecutors charged the suspects with second-degree kidnapping after investigators claimed the victims were forcibly removed from the residence.

Law enforcement officials said the family had been staying at the location as part of a protective safety plan. Investigators later tracked the missing trio to Rochester, where they were safely recovered on May 9.

Court documents reportedly suggest authorities feared the children could have been taken overseas and hidden from relatives and government agencies.

Defense Lawyer Claims Incident Was a “Rescue”

An attorney representing one of the accused men disputed the kidnapping allegations and described the incident as a rescue mission rather than an abduction.

According to the lawyer, the adult son allegedly received a plea for help from one of the children through a gaming console communication system. The attorney also claimed the son possessed guardianship paperwork and had previously contacted law enforcement regarding concerns for the family’s safety.

Despite those claims, prosecutors argued that the suspects coordinated the removal of the family without legal authorization.

Court Proceedings Continue as Investigation Expands

Two of the accused individuals were released under monitoring conditions following initial court appearances, while another suspect remained in custody because prosecutors considered him a possible flight risk.

Investigators continue to examine communication records, travel plans, and family connections as the case moves forward in court. Officials have not publicly released additional details about the original safety plan or the circumstances that led authorities to place the family in protected housing.

The suspects are expected to return to court later this week as the investigation continues.
