Bizarre Allegation at Popular Sydney Restaurant
A high-end eatery in Sydney’s historic Rocks district is at the center of an unusual scandal after claiming that a group of diners attempted to avoid settling their bill by planting hair on their food. Staff at the restaurant say the incident took place after the family had enjoyed premium items, racking up a bill of more than $600 before lodging a hygiene complaint.
According to the establishment, security footage appears to show a man discreetly removing hair from his underarm and placing it on his plate after their meal was finished. The restaurant later shared the video publicly in an effort to alert other hospitality businesses to what it described as a questionable tactic.
Video Evidence and Restaurant’s Response
The video, which was posted on social media by the restaurant, reportedly shows the diner scanning the dining room before reaching under his arm, pulling strands of hair and setting them on his dish. Staff say they noticed the group did not raise any concern about the alleged contamination until after most of the food had been eaten.
Management described the scene as disruptive once the diners refused to pay and became confrontational. In the middle of the commotion, a woman in the group became emotional, leading restaurant supervisors to waive the bill in the moment to calm the situation.
Police Involvement and Industry Reaction
After reviewing the footage, the restaurant reported the matter to local authorities, though early indications suggested limited immediate police action could be taken. Staff also claimed they later learned the same group might have pulled a similar stunt at another nearby venue.
The restaurant’s social media post has drawn strong reactions from viewers, with many expressing support for small businesses and outrage at the alleged plan to dodge the hefty bill by staging a contamination complaint.
