Former Coaches Predict Sean Mannion Will Be Home Run Hire for Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles have hired Sean Mannion as their new offensive coordinator, a decision that has garnered strong endorsements from his former associates. Klint Kubiak and Andrew Janocko, former coaches who worked with Mannion during his time as a player and are currently on the Seattle Seahawks staff for Super Bowl LX, have vocalized their support for the move. Janocko specifically praised Mannion’s mental acuity, noting that his “internal memory is ridiculous” and predicting that the appointment will prove to be a “home run hire” for Philadelphia.
Mannion, 33, recently concluded a nine-year NFL playing career spent primarily as a backup quarterback for the Rams, Vikings, and Seahawks. Following his retirement in 2023, he joined the Green Bay Packers coaching staff, where he quickly ascended from an offensive assistant to quarterbacks coach. His rapid rise is attributed to his role in the development of Packers quarterbacks Jordan Love and Malik Willis over the last two seasons.
Despite the high praise regarding his football intelligence, Mannion’s appointment carries distinct risks. He enters the role with zero prior experience calling plays at the professional level, a significant hurdle for a coordinator tasked with reviving a struggling unit. The Eagles’ offense faltered in the 2025 season, dropping to 19th in scoring, which resulted in a vacancy at the coordinator position. Mannion will also face the demanding Philadelphia media market, which offers a much higher level of scrutiny than his previous coaching environment in Green Bay. While his peers are confident in his preparation and schematic knowledge, Mannion must now translate his “ridiculous” memory into on-field results for a team under pressure to bounce back.
