Family Identifies Woman Killed Outside Davie Beauty School
The family of a woman killed outside a beauty school in Davie, Florida, has identified her as 20-year-old Aileen Martinez. Martinez, a student at the Aveda Institute, was fatally shot in the school’s parking lot on Tuesday afternoon. In a statement released Thursday, her family expressed their devastation, describing Martinez as a dedicated cosmetology student who was deeply passionate about music.
“We are heartbroken that our daughter was taken from us,” the family said in the release. “We take solace in knowing she celebrated life to the fullest while she was with us, and we find comfort in believing she is now at peace.”
Davie Police investigators determined that the shooting was a murder-suicide involving Martinez and her 25-year-old ex-boyfriend. Officers responded to the scene at approximately 2:00 p.m. following reports of gunfire at the campus on South University Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Martinez deceased and the male suspect suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
While police have not released the name of the shooter, Martinez’s family stated that they condemn the “violence and stalking” of her ex-boyfriend. They noted that their daughter had spent the last four years studying music and performing with bands across South Florida, in addition to her recent studies at the beauty institute.
The incident caused significant panic at the school and the surrounding area. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as students and staff were evacuated or forced to hide. Nearby St. David Catholic School was placed on lockdown as a precaution while SWAT teams cleared the area. Police confirmed they are not searching for any additional suspects in connection with the case.
An online fundraiser has been established to assist the Martinez family with funeral and burial expenses. The family has requested privacy as they navigate their grief, stating that details regarding memorial services will be shared once finalized.
