Las Vegas — A former reality TV personality is now facing serious criminal charges after his cellmate was found dead inside a Nevada detention facility, authorities said. Chad Aaron Ollinger, 41, who gained recognition on the Discovery Channel series Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch, was re-booked on suspicion of open murder following the discovery of the inmate’s lifeless body earlier this week.

Cell Fight Leads to Fatal Discovery

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, corrections staff at the Clark County Detention Center discovered the unnamed inmate unresponsive during routine checks. Officers observed blunt force injuries on the victim and attempted medical aid before the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Through investigation, police say a physical altercation occurred between Ollinger and the victim inside the shared cell.

Ollinger was already in custody at the facility, originally booked on unrelated charges. After the incident, he was re-arrested and charged with open murder. He is currently being held without bond, and his next court hearing is scheduled soon.

Background and Legal Troubles

Before this latest development, Ollinger had a long history of run-ins with the law. He was arrested in November 2024 in Texas after fleeing police following a traffic stop. He also faced charges earlier in 2025 related to driving with an invalid license. Records show he had been detained since October on a contempt of court charge from another jurisdiction.

The former reality star is perhaps best known for Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch, a show that follows his family’s treasure-hunting efforts on their Utah property. His father, Duane Ollinger, owns the ranch featured in the series.

Investigation Continues

Law enforcement investigators are still working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the deadly altercation. The name of the deceased inmate has not been released, and authorities have not publicly disclosed a possible motive. Officials urge anyone with information to contact the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Section.
