Kansas Man Arrested After Mid-Air Assault on Flight Attendant, Flight Diverted Austrian Airlines flight attendant and passenger

A domestic flight took a dramatic turn when a 24-year-old man from Kansas allegedly attacked a flight attendant mid-air, forcing the aircraft to return to the departure airport. The incident has sparked concerns over in-flight safety and crew protection as federal authorities press charges against the accused.

Passenger’s Erratic Behavior Sparks Chaos

About 30 to 60 minutes after take-off from Bradley International Airport in Connecticut, the passenger — identified by prosecutors as Julius Jordan Priester of Wichita, Kansas — reportedly stood up, removed his shirt and shouted for help before racing toward the rear of the cabin.
He then grabbed a seated flight attendant, shouted “You’re coming with me,” and attempted to drag them up the aisle, according to authorities.

Intervention and Emergency Landing

Fellow passengers and cabin crew intervened, restraining the man and returning him to his seat, though he continued to act erratically. The pilot declared an in-flight emergency and diverted the flight back to Bradley International Airport, where state police boarded the plane and took Priester into custody.

Legal Consequences and Pending Charges

Priester now faces federal charges for interference with flight crew members and attendants — offences that carry a possible maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison. Prosecutors noted he has a prior criminal history in Kansas, including aggravated assault. The condition of the flight attendant has not been publicly disclosed.
