TUCSON, Arizona — Police in Tucson have described a deadly shooting outside a popular gay bar as a targeted attack driven by hatred toward the LGBTQIA+ community. The shooting left two people dead, while the suspected gunman later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police Identify Victims and Suspect

The shooting took place early Monday in the parking lot of the Venture-N bar in Tucson. Authorities identified the two victims as Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33.

Police identified the suspected shooter as 44-year-old Ousman Ceesay. Investigators said Ceesay later died after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities said there was no apparent connection between the suspect and the victims.

Evidence Points to Anti-LGBTQIA+ Motive

Investigators said evidence discovered during the investigation indicated that the attack was motivated by hatred toward the LGBTQIA+ community. A note found at the suspect’s residence reportedly supported the conclusion that the shooting was a deliberate and targeted attack.

Police also found information linking the suspect to a list of LGBTQIA+-associated businesses. Authorities said the evidence indicated that he acted alone and that there was no ongoing threat connected to the attack.

Tucson Community Mourns After Deadly Attack

The shooting has caused widespread grief within Tucson’s LGBTQIA+ community, with memorials and vigils held to remember the victims. Venture-N has long been regarded as an important gathering place and safe space for members of the local LGBTQIA+ community.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack while providing support and reassurance to the community.
