Authorities in Georgia have issued an urgent alert after a Rockdale County inmate on suicide watch fled custody from a hospital in Atlanta. The 52-year-old, identified as Timothy Shane, escaped early Monday morning and is now considered armed and extremely dangerous. A multi-agency search is underway.

From Suicide Watch to Manhunt

Timothy Shane was transported from the county jail to Grady Memorial Hospital around 8 p.m. Sunday after a reported suicide attempt.
Authorities say he bolted from the hospital’s custody at about 1:20 a.m. the next day while wearing only a hospital gown and no shoes.

Officials warned that Shane has a prior record — including reckless driving, drug and weapons charges, and an earlier attempt to flee from police.

The Escape Route — SUV, Crash and Flight on Foot

After fleeing the hospital, Shane allegedly stole an SUV parked outside the facility. Less than a mile away the vehicle crashed on Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard. He reportedly abandoned the vehicle and continued on foot.
Law enforcement advises that the fugitive may be armed with a handgun reportedly taken from the stolen SUV and urges anyone who spots him not to approach.

Public Alert & Call for Vigilance

Shane is described as a 5′9″ White male, last seen barefoot and wearing a blue hospital gown.
Multiple agencies across Rockdale County and surrounding regions are involved in the search. Individuals with any information about his whereabouts are urged to contact the local sheriff’s office immediately.
