21-Year-Old Employee Dies After Workplace Stabbing in Michigan

A tragic workplace incident at a meat processing facility in Coldwater, Michigan, has left a 21-year-old employee dead and a fellow worker facing a murder charge.

The victim, identified as Brandon Eduardo Velasquez Chavez, suffered a fatal stab wound during an altercation inside the production area of the plant on June 29. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and attempted lifesaving measures, but Chavez was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Authorities arrested 20-year-old Valmir Djempsley, who has since been charged with murder. He pleaded not guilty during his court appearance and is currently being held without bond.

Dispute Over Work Knife Led to Deadly Confrontation

According to investigators, the incident reportedly began with a disagreement involving a work-issued knife. Court documents state that the argument escalated after the suspect claimed the victim had possession of one of his knives.

Investigators allege that the suspect told police the victim attempted to headbutt him before the confrontation intensified. Witnesses reported that the suspect chased Chavez and stabbed him in the lower back. However, witnesses were unable to confirm whether the alleged headbutt occurred.

Police recovered the knife believed to have been used in the attack as part of the ongoing investigation.

Murder Charge Filed as Investigation Continues

Emergency crews responded to the meat processing plant at approximately 7:41 p.m. Following the incident, first responders and medical personnel worked to save Chavez’s life, but he died at the scene.

The accused was formally arraigned on July 1, where he entered a plea of not guilty. Prosecutors indicated that, if convicted, he could face a life sentence. Officials also confirmed that his immigration status is under review and that an immigration hold has been placed while the legal process moves forward.

The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the fatal confrontation.
