A tragic discovery in San Diego’s Rancho Bernardo neighbourhood has prompted a full homicide investigation. Authorities found a woman lying next to her vehicle and bleeding from the head inside the parking lot of a fitness centre. Despite life-saving efforts by paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say the nature of her injuries and the location raise serious concerns.
Investigation Begins After Discovery at Mid-Afternoon
Shortly after 2:30 p.m. Monday, officers from the San Diego Police Department responded to reports of an unresponsive woman on the ground in the parking area of a recreation centre on West Bernardo Drive. The victim was found beside her car and bleeding from the head. Paramedics attempted life-saving measures but she was declared deceased at the scene.
Police labelled the death “suspicious” due to the unexplained wounds and circumstances, and the Homicide Unit has been notified.
Crime Scene and Evidence Being Reviewed
Investigators are treating the parking lot, just outside the gym, as a potential crime scene. Teams are examining surveillance footage from nearby cameras, interviewing witnesses in the area, and collecting physical evidence. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
Sheriff’s detectives say no arrests have been made at this time, and they are urging anyone with information, especially those who were at the location around 2 p.m., to come forward.
Community Response and Safety Advisory
Residents and gym members in the Rancho Bernardo area are shaken by the incident. Local officials emphasise that while the investigation is ongoing, this appears to be an isolated case. Nevertheless, they encourage people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in parking lots, especially after daylight hours.
