Los Angeles — Professional basketball star Sabrina Ionescu, guard for the New York Liberty, and her husband, former NFL lineman Hroniss Grasu, were the victims of a residential burglary at their Los Angeles area home on Monday night. Authorities say masked intruders forced entry and made off with an estimated $60,000 worth of designer handbags while the couple was away.
Masked Intruders Smash In and Steal Luxury Handbags
According to law enforcement officials, two individuals wearing ski masks broke through a rear glass door of the couple’s residence just after 8 p.m. local time, triggering the home alarm system. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene, finding the interior ransacked and several high-value handbags missing.
Security camera footage is currently under review as detectives work to identify the suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with the crime. Police confirm the burglars fled the scene in an unknown direction.
Athlete Homes Increasingly Targeted in Recent Trend
Ionescu’s burglary is not an isolated incident. In recent months, the residences of high-profile professional athletes have repeatedly been targeted by criminals when homeowners are away. Other stars across major sports leagues have reported similar break-ins, prompting both local police and federal authorities to issue warnings about these increasingly bold thefts.
The incident highlights growing concerns about home security among elite athletes, especially in large metropolitan areas. Experts suggest criminals may be monitoring public travel schedules and social media posts to plan timing for their thefts.
